The development and production of new plastic pellets demands extensive investigations and technological experiments to optimise the machine parameters. An autonomous data acquistion system was developed for a double screw extruder in order to get information about important parameters from different relevant points of the extrusion process. The system acquires not only the data from the control device but also measurement values of additional temperature, pressure and torsional moment measuring devices. The system is able to record and display online fast changes of pressure and temperature against the angle position of the extruder spindle. Any kind of temperature and pressure extruder sensors with analogous interface can be used. After being successfully used in combination with the double screw extruder ZSK 40 of Werner and Pfleiderer, the system does also work - after adaption of the measurement values - with the double screw extruder ZE 25 of Berstorff and with a take-up and stretch forming apparatus (Retech) at a spinning machine.
